Jakarta – Minister Pertahanan Prabowo Subianto receives four-star general award from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) which was done during the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting at GOR Ahmad Yani, Mabes TNI, Jakarta, Wednesday (28/2).
“This award is a form of appreciation and affirmation for serving fully to the people, to the nation, and to the state. I congratulate General Prabowo Subianto,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi gives a special rank promotion to Prabowo in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 13/TNI/Year 2024 dated February 21, 2024.
In line with the Presidential Decree, this special rank award for Prabowo in TNI is in accordance with the current applicable law, which is Law Number.20 of 2009. This law regulates the appointment or promotion of special ranks.
Previously, in 2022 Prabowo has received four main military honor stars, namely the Utama Dharma Yudha Star; Utama Kartika Eka Paksi Star; Utama Jalasena Star; and Utama Swa Buwana Paksa Star.
“Yes, this is so that we all know that by 2022, Mr. Prabowo Subianto has already received an honor called the Utama Dharma Yudha Star for his services in the defense sector, thus making an extraordinary contribution to the progress of the TNI and the progress of the country,” said Jokowi.
If referring to the award of the main military honor stars, this special rank award should have been given two years ago.
Jokowi also said that the award has gone through verification by the Council of Titles, Awards, and Honors. In addition, the award was also proposed by the TNI Commander in accordance with Law Number 20 of 2009.
Career and Achievements in the Military Field
During his career in the military world, Prabowo has held several strategic positions, including Commander General (Danjen) Kopassus and Commander of Kostrad (Pangkostrad).
Various achievements have also been made by Prabowo in the military field, one of them is when he served as Danjen Kopassus through the Mapenduma Operation in 1996. Prabowo’s struggle and his troops at that time resulted in the release of hostages from the hands of the Free Papua Movement (OPM).
Prabowo’s contribution to enhancing Indonesia’s reputation internationally also occurred in 1997 when he was the figure behind the brilliant idea of raising the Red and White flag at the top of the world’s highest mountain Everest. Prabowo entrusted this task to Serka (Ret.) Asmujino and Brigadier General Iwan Setiawan.
Various risks of life and death were faced by the climbers. But with high spirit and determination, the Red and White flag finally succeeded in being hoisted at the top of the mountain. (SENOPATI)
