The long-standing diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, established in 1947, solidified with a grand state welcome for French President Emmanuel Macron in Jakarta. A total of about 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels gathered at Merdeka Palace and the area surrounding the National Monument (Monas) to greet President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron. The motorcade, with tight security escort, moved through the ceremonial route toward the palace, creating a festive atmosphere.
President Macron’s arrival at Merdeka Palace was met with a warm welcome from President Prabowo Subianto, marking the beginning of an official and symbolic event. The two leaders proceeded together to the ceremonial grounds, accompanied by the national anthems of both countries and a 21-gun salute. As Prabowo and Macron reviewed the honor guard under the bright Jakarta skies, the enthusiasm of the students, displaying miniature flags, added to the celebratory ambiance.
In attendance at the ceremony were ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, along with Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia also includes visits to the Military Academy in Magelang and the Borobudur Temple, emphasizing the cultural and educational commonalities shared between the two nations. Subsequent to the welcoming rites, the heads of state engaged in a private bilateral meeting, delving into discussions regarding various strategic partnerships, underscoring the deepening of Indonesia-France relations.
