Jakarta, VIVA – The figure of retired TNI General Mulyono is attracting attention after the moment he removed his 4-star rank badge on his collar while standing next to Special Forces (Kopassus) soldiers was highlighted again.

Mulyono is a 4-star TNI general from Cepokosawit Village, Sawit District, Boyolali Regency, Central Java. He was born on January 12, 1961 to parents Suyatno Yatno Wiyoto-Pardinah.

Before joining the TNI, Mulyono was a student at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). While studying, Mulyono saw a group of men in military uniforms walking proudly near his campus.

After seeing that, Mulyono was interested in becoming a military officer. Young Mulyono then applied to the Armed Forces Academy of the Republic of Indonesia (AKABRI), and he was accepted.

In short, Mulyono graduated from AKABRI in 1983. With the rank of second lieutenant, Mulyono began his career as Commander of Company (Danton) Yonif 712 Kodam VII/Wirabuana.

After completing his combat unit duties, he continued his military education at the Infantry Center Advanced Officer School (Pussenif) of the Army Training Command (Kodiklat TNI AD) in Bandung.

Not only that, after his education, in 1995 he was assigned as the Head of the Operational Instruction Section (Kasiopsjar) of the Infantry Education Data Center (Pusdat) in the City of Flowers.

In just 2 years, Mulyono was entrusted as Commander of Infantry Battalion 143/Tri Wira Eka Jaya for the area of Kodam I Bukit Barisan. He also served as a Grade V Lecturer at the Army Staff and Command School (Seskoad) for a year.

Mulyono’s military career is considered very bright. After 2000, he held various important positions one after another.

Some of the positions he has held include Commander of Kodim 0901/Samarinda in 2000, Assistant Operations of the Army Strategic Command (Kaskostrad) in 2006, Commander of the Military Academy in Magelang and Commander of the 032/Wirabraja Regional Military Command in 2009.

On May 10, 2011, Mulyono was inaugurated as Brigadier General (1-star general) and was appointed as the Director of Training at the Army Training Command (Kodiklat TNI AD). However, in that same year, his position shifted to become the Director of Doctrine at Kodiklat TNI AD.

After 20 years of service, Mulyono was promoted to Major General (2-star general) in the TNI AD. He moved to Jakarta to serve as the Army Chief of Staff Operations Assistant in 2013.

In 2014, Mulyono’s career became even more shining. Within months, he managed to occupy strategic positions. Starting from Pangdam Jaya to Pangkostrad, replacing Gatot Nurmantyo’s position. His rank also increased along with his promotion to Lieutenant General (3-star general).

A year later, Mulyono’s position reached its peak. He was entrusted with the role of Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) and promoted to 4-star General. At that time, Mulyono replaced General Gatot Nurmantyo who was appointed as the TNI Commander. General Mulyono was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on June 17, 2015.
