Prabowo Subianto’s Experience with Pak Sutiyoso
Pak Sutiyoso, who graduated from the ’68 Academy, was known to Prabowo Subianto during his time in the military. Although they did not often interact directly, Pak Sutiyoso was involved in various operations, including infiltration operations in East Timor under a senior military figure, Pak Dading Kalbuadi.
Described as a humorous field person with a passion for shooting moving targets, Pak Sutiyoso made an impact on Prabowo Subianto. When Pak Sutiyoso, then serving as the Operations Assistant of Kopassus, proposed that Prabowo Subianto become the Commander of Pusdikpassus in Batujajar, Prabowo Subianto agreed. Recognizing the prestige and importance of the position, he saw an opportunity to influence the quality of Indonesia’s elite forces through improving the curriculum and training at Batujajar.
During his tenure as the Commander of Pusdikpassus, Pak Sutiyoso supported Prabowo Subianto significantly. Recalling their time together under the leadership of Pangkostrad, Prabowo Subianto emphasized Pak Sutiyoso’s patriotism and sense of humor. He viewed Pak Sutiyoso as a mentor and senior figure who had guided him during his military career.
